Ruffstuff Specialties Dana 70 Chevy Dually Axle Disc Brake Conversion Kit Using SRW
Dana 70 Chevy Dually Axle Using Single Rear Wheel Disc Brake Kit
The CNC Axle/ Dually axle is a favorite for offroad enthusiasts to swap into their 4x4 toys to gain strength while still staying somewhat narrow. This brake kit is designed to work with those swaps and run a single rear wheel on that axle. This kit will not work with dually wheels and is not recommended for vehicles towing excessive weight like the trucks these axles came in are designed for. Your factory drum brakes and parking brake will have much greater holding power when setup properly so it is recommended to keep that setup for tow rigs.
Our disc brake conversion kit is the best conversion to eliminate the drum brakes, in many cases it is less expensive to switch to disc brakes than to rebuild drum brakes. Changing from drum brakes to disc brakes is easy, and all the parts you need to complete the conversion and get rid of those heavy drum brakes are included in this kit. You may need to get a manual adjusting proportioning valve to tune in your front to rear braking bias (we recommend Wilwood) and will want to get/rent a brake line flaring tool to connect our soft brake lines to the hard lines on your axle (3/8-24 inverted flare).
Chevy Dana 70 dually disc brake conversion using single rear wheels for an off road application. The Dana 70 Dually axle is a very popular conversion due to their narrower width (64"-66") when used with only one wheel. The weight savings on a standard Dana 70 are substantial but take a look at the drums and pads on a dually, you save well over 100lbs swapping to discs! The Chevy Dana 70 dually axle was common in Chevy trucks from 1972 until '87 in the 1 ton range. It was stock in service trucks, flatbeds, crewcabs, motor homes and even some delivery vans (bread vans).
Important
- This kit is for converting to standard single steel wheel minimum 15" with a maximum 4" back spacing. Does not work with dually wheels. Due to the large bend in these brackets they do not support the parking brake calipers. The bend is in the way of the cable attachment. If you wish to run parking brake calipers it would be best to go with a weld on bracket
Complete Kit Includes:
- 1 Pair Chevy Dana 70 Dually Disc Brake Brackets
- 2 Weld on Brake Line Tabs
- 2 Brake Line Clips
- 2 Brake Calipers
- 2 Hydraulic Hoses with Banjo Bolt Fittings (Your hard line requires a 3/8-24" inverted flare fitting for these hoses to bolt to)
-
Standard Calipers come with 10mm Banjo Bolts. El Dorado Calipers come with 7/16" Banjo Bolts
- 4 New Brake Pads
- 2 New Rotors
Note
- Double check stud diameter, studs should drop freely into the rotor. DO NOT press studs into the rotor. If your hub has too large of studs you will need to drill the rotors to accept them. Be sure to have minimum 5/8" lug nut thread engagement once the wheel is installed
- Rotor installs onto the backside of the hub!
- Don't forget to re-bleed your brakes once you've installed your new conversion kit.
- An adjustable proportioning valve is recommended, this will allow you to fine tune your front/rear stopping power bias. Your front axle should always do about 70% of the work.
- If your vehicle has a residual valve (can be located within the master cylinder or externally) you will want to remove it. Not doing so can cause your rear brakes to drag or lock up
- This is ONLY for a Chevy D70 Dually, it will not fit your Ford or Dodge.
